My smart girl...

Looking at my glasses where they snapped in half she said, "You need to fix them!" "I know, Sweetie," I said. "But I don't think I can fix them." "Oh," she said, and appeared to ponder for a moment. "How 'bout tape?!"

My pretty cloth diaper collection, in its new home.

Top shelf: Extra inserts (white stack), all but 3 of my bumGenius One Size Pocket Diapers. The 3 missing diapers are in the wash (or in use).

Middle shelf: My pretty, pretty GoodMama One Size Fitted Diapers, and a basket full of cloth wipes.

Bottom Shelf: Pink basket contains disposable liners, Butt Paste, and hemp doublers; middle basket contains my fleece covers and skirties; last little basket contains BabyLegs.

My goodmamas now definitively outnumber my bGs. I've either traded for them or bought them on the cheap. Someday I'd love to know the magic of a brand new GoodMama...

Are we drying out now? The weather map looks like we're in the clear most the night. The forecast says to expect heavy, soaking rain but I'm not seeing it on the radar. So either it's wrong, or it's the pop-up storm sort of rain that looms before us. I'm really hoping it's WRONG.

As of last check, we're more or less stranded on an island. We live off of Hwy 92 in SE Paulding County. 92 is closed in multiple places north and south of us. Our other way out is Brownsville Rd, which takes us into Cobb County, but it's closed, too. Any artery that feeds off of Brownsville to snake us either north or south on 92 spits us out before the road closures or are closed themselves. There is NO WAY for us to go north or east. The west won't get us anywhere. And south - we can get south, but only by way of a long, winding, out of the way route. Sam managed to get to the grocery store this evening to pick up a few things to help us get by the next day or two, should the "flood-in" continue. He said the Kroger was swamped with people and that lines stretched back through the store. The bad thing is that route takes you over yet another bridge, and the water was running high there, too, just barely passing under the bridge. Any increase in water level and that road will close, too. Hopefully this dry spell this evening is allowing things to receed. Maybe roads will be open by morning.

We didn't even have mail delivery today.

We're also under a water boil advisory, until further notice. Hopefully that will be lifted by morning, as well. Schools all over the metro Atlanta area are closed tomorrow, even those in the city. This has been a pretty spectacular event. And by spectacular, I mean really devastating for a lot of people. We have some flooding downstairs, but it's very, VERY minor, compared to many, many people around us. As a matter of fact, the first floor of one of my LJ friends' house is completely under water. Lives have been lost - people, animals - and homes destroyed. It's really just terrible and surreal.

The corner of the county I'm got 15 inches of rain. Fif-teen-inches.

Mostly Emma. A few of Katie. Only a few of Katie because she's too busy running around to catch in a photo, or when she notices I'm taking pictures she runs up and stands RIGHTINFRONTOFTHECAMERA saying "Cheese! Cheese! Cheese!" and all I get are blurry photos of her chin or her shoulder.

We were adpoted today by this itty bitty kitty. Someone Sam works with found the little scrapper wandering in the parking deck. She was muddy and flea bitten and very, very hungry. Sam lost an orange tabby several years ago and we'd agreed that, when the right time came, we would adopt another one. Well, this little darling wiggled her way into Sam's heart immediately. Today was the "right time."

I drove out to his office around midday to pick her up so she'd stop distracting Sam and all his coworkers. I'd made an appointment with the vet for this afternoon so we could try to determine her age and her state of health. I stopped at my mom's on the way to the vet since I had some time to kill. Mom gave her a bath, washing all kinds of filth from her, and a few fleas, too. She ate and drank and got lots of gramma cuddle time before we had to pack up and head to the vet.

The vet gave us the best news we could get - FIV/Feline Leukemia Negative! She was flea-ridden, though, and had ear mites, and an intestinal parasite. She's being treated for all three. Based on her weight and size, we're guessing she's around 4-5 weeks, so no vaccinations for another 4-6 weeks. She also surprised us by appearing to be female, since 3 out of 4 orange tabby cats are male. It makes her even more special!

We were originally going to name her Oliver, when she thought she was a he ... carrying forward the name for the first little orphan orange cat Sam had. We decided that Oliver wouldn't quite do for a little girl. "Apple" is a tongue-in-cheek nod to a phase Katie is (was?) in where every time she gets into some sort of mischief and she's caught, she says "Apple!" like it's her "safe word" or something. So... here's Apple!

And sorry the photos are so crummy... late night, flash, quick snapshots of an active kitty in the semi-dark.

I may have a few more that I'll add, but for now this is what I've got!

EDIT: A word on the shredded tags. At the time I bought the 2nds from cottonbabies.com, their way of indicating a 2nd was to put a black X on the tag and cut the tag down the middle, along the fold. When I washed them, the tag unravled and shredded, like you see above. I wrote an email, complaining about this, that it looks tacky and initially tangled all up in my wash. It was a mess. They said they'd stop doing it ASAP. But lucky me, I've got fringy bGs.

There's a dance that Daisy Duck does on an episode of The Mickey Mouse Club House that Katie loves. This is her imitation of it. I got a great video of it earlier in the day but I accidentally deleted it. :( This is Katie (and Aunt Elena) doing the dance as they walk along a path at Zoo Atlanta.

I found these in the produce section at my local Kroger. I wish the photos were better, but my phone lacks a bit in that department.
